Who doesn't love a delicious meal in an expensive steakhouse restaurant? With just a few ingredients, you can create a low cost version at home.

What’s on the menu? Perfect steak, scrumptious baked potatoes, garlic bread and steak house salad.

On those days that you’re not sure what to fix, but still want something healthy and filling for your family, this menu is perfect. Much of it can even be made ahead. (Ingredients are listed at the end).

Steaks

In the morning, or even the night before, (thaw steaks if frozen) and marinade with ¼ cup steak sauce and a tablespoon of dry steak seasoning, such as McCormick’s Montreal Steak Seasoning. Simply put everything in a large plastic bag and seal, keep in refrigerator until ready to use.

Steak House Salad

Use any salad mix. To make ahead, cut up two tomatoes into wedges, 1 small red onion and sprinkle with a little lemon juice, keep in a sealed bag to use just before serving. You’ll add a few more ingredients before serving.

Cheesy Baked Potatoes

To make potatoes ahead, place baking potatoes in foil, prick with a fork, sprinkle with salt and a dab of butter, wrap and bake at 425 degrees F for about an hour. Allow to cool completely and refrigerate until ready to use.

Garlic Bread

The easiest way to make this is to use store bought frozen garlic bread, but you can use a loaf of Italian or French bread, cut in half and spread with a mixture of 1/3 cup butter and 1 Tbs. garlic salt.

To prepare the meal

Heat oven to cook garlic bread, turn on grill to warm. Steaks can also be prepared in the oven broiler. If broiling, place rack 4 inches from heat source and cover broiling pan with foil.

If the potatoes are baked, remove them from foil and place on a microwave safe plate. Begin reheating them according to your microwave’s instructions. (Usually about 10 minutes or less for 4 potatoes) If potatoes have not been baked, you will need to start baking them an hour and a half before the meal is to be served. The garlic bread can cook along side them in the oven during the last 10 minutes.

Place marinated steaks on the grill or broiler and cook about 5 or 6 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Brush with additional steak sauce if desired while cooking.

While steaks are cooking:

Place salad mix, cut up tomatoes and onions in a large salad bowl. If desired, cut up some cucumber and 4 slices pre-cooked bacon. Toss everything with ½ cup bottled Italian salad dressing.

Split heated potatoes open with a knife; fluff potatoes with a fork. Heat a jar of Cheez Whiz according to directions and pour several tablespoons over each potato, if desired. Sprinkle with parsley and chopped green onion if desired. Can be served with plain butter and parsley also.
